0041 Morning Mist
Baxter State Park, Maine
Moose calves are usually born between mid-May and early June. Although a single calf is typical, twins are not uncommon. Triplets, occurring once in every 1,000 births, are extremely rare. As with many species of wildlife, food supply affects fertility. A higher percentage of twins are born when food is abundant.
