Cranes migrate during daytime hours, riding thermals higher and higher as far as it will carry them, then gliding in wavering lines until reaching the next thermal, spiraling upward again and again, repeating the process over and over until they reach their destination. On a good day, they travel up to 500 miles although 200 to 300 miles is more typical.
