A few years ago, I sat at my light table editing slides made during a photo shoot in Alaska’s Denali National Park. Much to my surprise, I discovered that one of the images depicted the likeness of a gray wolf superimposed over a herd of caribou. I do not remember photographing the caribou, let alone the wolf; neither am I prone to blackouts nor bouts of amnesia. Nevertheless, there it lay, recorded on film before me on my light table. What made this image special was what it portrayed - the relationship between Wolf and Caribou. Throughout the eons of time, the lives of Wolf and Caribou have been intricately woven together in Nature’s great plan. Caribou would not be the animals we know today were it not for wolves. Likewise, wolves would not have fine-tuned their hunting skills were it not for caribou. Together, they have evolved into the animals that everyone is familiar - thus, my reason for naming the image, “Spirit Wolf.” Some might say “Spirit Wolf” was an accident; after all, it certainly wasn’t planned. If, however, you’re like me and don’t believe in accidents or luck, then who, or what, created the image? I believe that “Spirit Wolf” was a gift directly from Nature - a response to Nature’s Magic Wand. Edition of 500
