0048 Deja Vu
Lake Clark National Park, Alaska
Previous / Next
Iliamna Volcano is located 134 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska, across Cook Inlet from the town of Homer. Deeply dissected by glaciers, its last proper eruption appears to have happened 300 years ago. Still, fumaroles produce nearly constant plumes on summit peak (on the right), one of five peaks that make up the volcano’s 3-mile-long ridge. The reflecting lake in the foreground is not actually a lake, but Shelter Creek at high tide.

Eidition of 500
