Scenes like this one on Maine’s Penobscot River are being threatened, due to heavy pollution from numerous paper mills along its banks. Worse yet, the pollution is disrupting the Penobscot Tribe’s way of life. Dioxin levels are so high, the people are no longer able to rely on the river. The cancer rate in their community is twice what it is in the rest of the state.
