0094 Beach Master
Coastal California
Elephant seals derive their name from their great size and from the male’s huge nose, or proboscis, which resembles an elephant's trunk. Males begin developing this enlarged nose at sexual maturity (about three to five years). By the time they reach the ripe old age of nine, it is fully developed. The proboscis is absent on females.
