0091 Trouble in Paradise
Coastal California
The northern elephant seal’s diet includes over 30 species of fish and cephalopods, including squid and octopus. They are famous for their deep and extended dives while feeding, typically between a 1000 and 2500-feet, with males occasionally going down to almost 5000-feet. Average dive times are also long with 20-minutes for males and a little less for females. However, a female elephant seal holds the record for the deepest dive . . . 5259-feet, and a time of 119 minutes.

Edition of 500
