It's early December and a thin layer of ice coats the water near the edge of the pond. Although Snow Geese spend summers in the far north, during winter they can be found in the grain fields and wetlands along the mid-Atlantic coast, California, New Mexico, and Gulf of Mexico southward into Mexico, as well as Japan. During this time, flocks can number into the tens of thousands.
