0050 Day Dreaming
Lake Clark National Park, Alaska
Previous / Next
This sow began her vigil each day at low tide by staking out her favorite location on the flats, where she would wait for a salmon to jump, signaling that they were starting to swim upstream. Since the salmon run was slow in starting, the action was usually slow and the wait was long. Eventually tiring from standing while she waited, she would find a comfortable spot, sit on her rear haunches and continue her vigil. It wouldn’t take long. however, until boredom would sit-in. At that point, she would lie down, prop her chin on one of her legs leg, and appear to drift off to sleep. Who knows . . . perhaps she was daydreaming about her next meal.
