0001 Fall on the Tundra
Denali National Park, Alaska
Many Alaskans claim that The Last Frontier has four seasons - June, July, August, and Winter. Fall, however, does exisi . . . if only for a week, and typically arrives sometime during the last week in August. This bull caribou, grazing amongst bearberries, blue berries, and a host of other ediable plants adorned in fall colors, is busily preparing for the fast approaching winter months when food become scarse. Day-time temperatures reached into the mid-30s (F) when this image was made. A week later, some hundred miles to the north, they had plumeted to minus-40 degrees F.

Edition of 500.
